LIBERTY – Ellsworth Harris Swift passed away Jan. 14, 2006. He was born Sept. 29, 1912, in East Bridgewater, Mass., the son of the late Fred A. and Edith M. (Harris) Swift. He was educated at Northeastern University, Boston, Mass. and graduated with a B.B.A. in engineering and management. He was employed by the federal government, Department of the Army and retired after 35 years combined on the Watertown Arsenal and Materials and Mechanics Research Center, both in Watertown, Mass. He was a member of several sportsmen’s groups including the N.R.A. and S.A.M. He was also a member of the Heritage Foundation and The Law Enforcement Alliance of America. He was a 50-year mason and was a member of Puritan Lodge AF & AM of Whitman, Mass., the Brockton-Abington Council of Royal and Select Master Masons and the Satucket-Pilgrim Royal Arch Chapter. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Whitman, Mass. He was predeceased by four sisters, Eunice Adams of Whitman, Mass., Jane of Brockton, Mass., Eleanor of Florida and Vivian of Attleboro, Mass.; four brothers, Merton of Brockton, Mass., James of East Bridgewater, Mass., Arthur of Florida and Wallace of Arizona; one son, Russell of Arizona; and nephew, Frank Burnham, lost at sea in World War II. Brothers, Wallace and Merton were also veterans of World War II. He is survived by one brother, Donald of Florida, a World War II veteran; one sister, Dorothy of Brockton, Mass.; two sons, Kenneth of Arizona and Gerald of Oregon, a Vietnam veteran; also several nieces and nephews. He will be cremated and his remains buried in the family lot in Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman, Mass. Graveside services will be conducted by the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Whitman with the Puritan Lodge officers and members participating. A celebration of his life will be held 2 p.m. Jan. 28, at Gield and Edith Tolman residence, Route 1, Camden. For directions call Sue Tolman.
