PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Elrie Holmes Carpenter, 77, passed away Sept. 13, 2006, at TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, Port Charlotte, Fla. He was born Feb. 18, 1929, in Bangor, to Ralph E. and Elsie (Holmes) Carpenter. He grew up in Brewer and Northeast Harbor, graduated from Brewer High School in 1947, Rochester Institute of Technology in 1949 and Wayne State University, Detroit in 1960. During the period 1951 through 1953 he served in the U.S. Air Force, both in the United States and in Korea. He was employed for a number of years by Ansco Division of General Aniline and Film Corp. as a sales representative for professional productions and returned to Maine in 1964 and joined the Knowles Co., Northeast Harbor, in real estate appraisal. In 1972, he was employed by the Bangor office of HUD-FHA as an appraiser and financial analyst, later transferring to their Manchester, N.H., office. In 1983, he joined a mortgage company in New Hampshire later transferring to the parent bank situated in Massachusetts. In 1989, he returned to government employment joining the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., in Massachusetts as an investigator/financial analyst. In August 1994, he retired from the FDIC, Orlando, Fla., field office and moved with his wife, Janice to Port Charlotte, Fla. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Lisa Ouellette and her husband, Thomas, of Vernon, Conn., Lynn Jones of Hermon, Laurie Rose and her husband, James, of Orono; four grandchildren, Angus and Cameron Rose, Dana and Nathan Ouellette; a step daughter, Linda McNally and her husband, Michael, of Port Charlotte, Fla.
