PASSADUMKEAG – Elsie R. Smart, 93, passed away Feb. 15, 2006, at a Howland nursing facility. She was born Sept. 30, 1912, in Woodville, the daughter of Frank B. Chesley and Susan (Stevens) Chesley. She joined the Grange at the age of 14 and remained a very active member for nearly 80 years. She was a very loving and devoted grandmother. She loved being at the camp on Big Boyd Lake, knitting, crocheting and cooking for her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all. She is survived by her son-in-law, John J. Donahue of Island Falls and his friend, Jeannie Goodall, of Oakfield; grandson, Donald J. Donahue Sr. and his wife, Shirley, of Rochester, N.H.; granddaughter, Wanda M. Cieri and her husband, Paul, of Tuckerton, N.J.; granddaughter, Susan L. Donahue of Island Falls; great-grandson, Donald J. Donahue Jr. of Rochester, N.H.; and great-granddaughter, Megan M. Cieri of Tuckerton, N.J.; sister, Ruth C. Nickerson of Passadumkeag. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Gordon Smart in 1963; her husband, Clarence Smart in 1981; and her daughter, Mona Donahue in 1987; her brothers, Sanford, Alton, Merle and Elwood; and sister, Grace Foss. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jack Caron, officiating.
