HAMPDEN – Elsie Powers (Smith) Brown, 79, wife of the late Kenneth R. Brown, passed away Dec. 29, 2005. She was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Stockton Springs, the daughter of Samuel N. and Elsie Margaret (Powers) Smith. Elsie was a lifelong resident of Hampden, attended Hampden schools and was a member of the Hampden Congregational Church and the Hampden Senior Citizens. She retired from the S.A.D. No. 22 student lunch program, after 25 years of service. She enjoyed knitting hats and scarves and donating them to local charities or to children who needed them. Elsie was an avid cat lover. For the past several years, Elsie enjoyed living at Roe Village where she also was a volunteer. Elsie is survived by two daughters, Wanda Brown of Manitou Springs, Colo. and Kelly Kohute of Surry; two grandchildren, Ross and Kristopher; and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Kenneth in 1991; and by three brothers, Nelson, Franklin and Talbot; and two sisters, Norma and Marion. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 p.m. Monday, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday.
