NORTHPORT and SEARSPORT – Elva Isabelle Mabel Hayden Dilling, 97, died Dec. 6, 2005, at a Belfast nursing facility. She was born Aug. 6, 1908, at Biggar Ridge, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Charles and Lydia (Harrington) Hayden and moved to Easton at the age of 12. She moved to Northport with her husband, Glen and family in 1931 and remained in the same home, with short absences, throughout most of her life. She began her career with Bell Telephone in Fort Fairfield, and later worked at the Belfast and Bangor offices, for a total of 28 years. She was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Northport VFW. Elva was a member of longstanding at the Northport Community Church, where she had been instrumental in getting it re-opened after being closed for several years. She always found great pleasure in family gatherings at her home, her garden and in the winter months she kept busy knitting, quilting, making rugs, caning chairs and other projects, and was most anxious to share that knowledge with all who wanted to learn. Elva is survived by children, Jennie Nordberg of Belfast, Mary Rollerson and husband, Walter, of Searsport, Victor Dilling and wife, Kathy, of Stevensville, Md.; sister-in-law, Helen Boyd; grandchildren, Michele Light and husband, Mike, David Chaney and wife, Winnie, Debra Harriman, Brad Rollerson and wife, Tracy, Steele Dilling and wife, Carrie, Christopher Dilling and wife, Monique, Craig Dilling and wife, Tami; great-grand-children, Christopher Carroll, Jason Light and wife, Renee, Joseph Light, Jenna, Amanda and Kayla Chaney, Brian and Paige Rollerson, Matthew, Sarah, Nicholas, Kelsey, Madylin, Alexa, Tyler, Ryan, Nicole and Ashley Dilling. She was predeceased by husbands, Glen Dilling, and Arthur Gould; brothers, Charles Manuel Hayden, Lewis Hayden, Kenneth Hayden, Lloyd Boyd; sisters, Anna Stevenson, Alice Ferris, Aralda Clark, Beatrice Crabtree, Mildred Hammond. Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at the Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main St., Searsport. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Northport Community Church with the Rev. Russell Bailey officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Northport Community Church, Saturday Cove, Northport, ME 04849.
