YORK – Elvis Reed, 86, husband of Elida Mae (Giggie) Reed of Beech Ridge Road, died Wednes-day, June 29, 2005, at York Hospital. He was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Saltillo, Tenn., the son of Nev and Rosa (Clausel) Hendon and attended local schools. While in the Air Force during World War II, he was transferred from Mississippi to the Presque Isle Air Force Base. He met and married a young local woman, Elida Giggie. They had been married for 61 years. After his service discharge in November 1945, Elvis worked as a trailer truck driver until 1965 when they moved to Kittery. He was employed as a carpenter for area construction companies working on the building of the Kittery Trading Post and a local trailer park. Elvis moved to York Harbor and became a private caretaker for two families for 30 years before moving to Beech Ridge Road. He attended the York Street Baptist Church. Members of his family include his wife, Elida (Giggie) Reed of York; son, Timothy D. and his wife, Carol Reed, of York Harbor; daughters, Sarah Ann Garger of Dover Plantation, N.H. and Susan Shakleton of Somersworth, N.H.; three brothers, Hollis Davison of Colorado; Luther Davison of Texas, and Dewey Davison of Arkansas; sister-in-law, Phyllis Giggie of Presque Isle; six grandchildren, Joseph Garger, Maryann Garger, Christopher Tufts, Gabriel Shakelton, Charles William Shakelton and Dalelyn Reed; great-grand-daughter, Nicky Rose Fletcher; and several nieces and nephews in Tennessee. Elvis also leaves many wonderful friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, at the York Street Baptist Church, York Street. Interment will follow in the First Parish Cemetery, York. There are no visiting hours. Arrangements by Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, York.
