BAR HARBOR – Elwood “Elkie” B. Reed Jr., 83, died Jan. 22, 2007, at Mount Desert Island Hospital. He was born Oct. 9, 1923, in Manchester, Mass., the son of Elwood B. Sr. and Mary O. (Wass) Reed. Elkie served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 103 and Masonic Lodge No. 208, both of Northeast Harbor. He enjoyed working in the shop and playing pool. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Anne (Tuttle) Reed; one sister, Gloria Haddad of Northeast Harbor; two grandchildren, Tiffany and Kristopher; and two great-grandchildren, Zane and Adalaide. Elkie was predeceased by his two sons, Lee Howard Jones and Nelson Hall Reed. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at Jordan-Fernald, 48 Eden St., Bar Harbor, with the Rev. William Bigelow officiating. Spring interment will be at Seal Harbor Cemetery. Contributions in Elkie’s memory may be made to the American Legion Post 103, Northeast Harbor, ME 04662.
