ATHENS – Erland H. Cobb, 89, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2007, surrounded by his family, in Skowhegan. He was born March 5, 1918, in Harmony, the son of Harry Cobb and Addie (Brown) Cobb. He graduated from Harmony High School, Class of 1936. He married the former Elizabeth Lancaster, Oct. 26, 1940, in Skowhegan. Erland was self-employed for many years, running cranes that loaded pulpwood. He then went to work for Norman Jackson Construction Co., Pittsfield. He started out running heavy equipment and then became a superintendent for Jackson Construction Co., running jobs all throughout the state. He was an avid pilot, flying his own planes and was a member the Pittsfield Aviation Club. He enjoyed riding motorcycles. He loved farming and together with his wife, Liz, raised show ponies for many years, taking numerous awards at state fairs. Erland often took state championship trophies. For 23 years, Liz and Erland owned and operated a boarding home for mentally disabled women. In addition to his beloved wife of 66 years, Elizabeth of Athens, he is survived by one nephew, Reginald Cobb of Dexter; one niece, Cynthia Annis of Monson; second cousins, Eddie Lancaster of Virginia, Eva Wellar of Virginia, Charles “Skip” Cobb of Harmony, John Cobb of Ashland; and numerous other family members and friends. He is also survived by his goddaughter, Linda (Ricker) Grimaldi Raymond of Hampton, N.H. He was predeceased by one sister, Alice Connors; one brother, Glenwood Cobb; nephew, Wayne Connors; and a first cousin, Peggy Lancaster. There will be no visiting hours or funeral service at this time. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Mount Rest Cemetery, Athens.
