ERMA BEATRICE WHITEHOUSE ISLAND FALLS – Erma Beatrice Whitehouse, 95, died July 8, 2004, at Houlton. She was the wife of the late Irving “Bine” Whitehouse whom she married in 1926. She was born Sept. 28, 1908, in Houlton, the daughter of Burns and Alida (Wood) Smith. She attended Sherman Mills schools and worked beside her husband at the two, then restaurants, he owned and operated; Bine’s Lunch in Sherman Mills and Bine’s Drive-In in Patten. After his death in 1967, she made her home in Bangor with her son, Dana, until his death in 1989. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed raising a variety of flowers in her beautiful flower gardens. She will always be remembered for the floats she and her sisters, Dot and Marion, entered in the parades during Old Home Week in Sherman. She is survived by two daughters, Gwen and her husband, Walton O’Roak of Island Falls, and Cheryl and her husband, Normand Rivard of Lewiston; four grandchildren and their spouses, John and Sue O’Roak of Glenburn, Jill and Wilbur Hersey of Hampden, Jolene and Bob Porter of Island Falls and Jeffrey and Sara O’Roak of Rockport; six great-grandchildren, Erin O’Roak, Sgt. Jamie Hersey, Janice Rushton, Robbie Porter, Shannon and Maureen O’Roak; three great-great-grandchildren, Bryce and Lauren Porter and Jayden Rushton. She was predeceased by her brothers, Errol, Lawrence, and Essek Smith; and sisters, Leila Smith, Marion Sides, Dorothy Robinson, Glenna Smith, and Mad-eline Nason; and a special nephew, Larry Smith of Brewer. Friends may call 3-4 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at the Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls, with funeral services being held at 4 p.m. Interment will be in the Sherman Mills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
