LUBEC – Ernest Frederick Fernald, 76, passed away at his home, May 19, 2004. He was born May 27, 1927, in Lubec, the son of John and Deliah (Metcalf) Fernald. He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as produce manager at the A & P grocery store in Lubec for 10 years and continued employment there when it became Farmer’s Red & White. He was a man who enjoyed being outdoors, was an avid hunter, and loved spending time at his camp. He was a life member of Stuart-Green Post No. 65 American Legion, as well as a life member of Parkinson-Vose 3315 VFW in Lubec. He is survived by his wife, Guelda (Morey) Fernald; a son-in-law, Aubrey Carter of Machias; three sisters, Lorraine Carter of Lubec, Shelia Mallock of Eastport and Jane Chute of Lubec; two grandchildren, Jamie V. Carter and wife, Debbie, of Richmond and Tracey Carter of Oklahoma; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Fuzzy Fernald; a daughter, Sharon Carter; and a sister, Marie Brown. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at the Greenlawn Cemetery, Lubec, with Pastor Gary Look officiating.
