ERNEST T. JONES BANGOR – Chief Petty Officer Ernest T. Jones, U.S. Navy retired, 82, pass-ed away Feb. 22, 2008, at a local hospital. He was born Sept. 11, 1926, in New York, the son of Leroy and Gladys Jones. Ernest joined the Navy in 1945 and served for 30 years. He participated in World War II and the Korean War. Ernest received many decorations, medals and commendations. Ernest was store manager at Cutler and Winter Harbor Naval Stations for many years. After his retirement Ernest moved to Bangor. He was one of the last full time residents of the Bangor House. Ernest is survived by his stepbrother, Robert Burr and his wife, Betty, of Rochester, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his many friends at the Wave, Geaghan’s Roundhouse and Whig & Courier, who knew him fondly as “Chief.”
