LUBEC – Ernest W. Olson Sr., 90, died unexpectedly March 18, 2008, at his home. He was born Aug. 30, 1917, in Lubec, the son of Harold and Doris (Seeley) Olson. Ernest was a graduate of Lubec High School, Class of 1936. A proud veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army 256th Division of the Medium Maintenance Ordinance Company, he was a member of the American Legion Stuart-Green Post No. 65, Lubec and a member of the VFW Parkinson-Vose Post No. 3315, Lubec. Of all his attributes, Ernest will be remembered by his family and friends as being a loving, kind and devoted father, grandfather and husband, an avid gardener and fun loving friend to many, many people. He worked many years as a heavy machinery operator for the Sherwood Prout Company and Herbert Hanscom Company. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Anna; and three brothers, George, Robert and Theodore. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Jones) Olson; two sons, Ernest W. Olson Jr. and wife, Roberta, of Auburn, Paul E. Olson and wife, Debra, of Lubec; a daughter, Kim O. Denbow of Lubec; two granddaughters, Megan J. Olson of Auburn and Jessica D. Matthews and fianc?, Scott Ramsdell, of Lubec; a very special grandson, Ryan E. Denbow of Lubec; two great-grandchildren, Alex and Jaelyn Matthews of Lubec; two sisters, Rhoda Eaton and Laura Calder, both of Lubec; two brothers, John Olson and James Olson, both of Connecticut; many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at Olson Cemetery, with Pastor Gary Look officiating. Donations in his memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
