PRETTY MARSH and HANCOCK – Estella Etta MacRae, 80, died peacefully Jan. 24, 2007, at Golden Acres, Hancock. She was born Jan. 4, 1927, in Mount Desert, the daughter of Lewis and Mazie (Brown) Smallidge. Stella attended Mount Desert schools and graduated from Gilman High School in 1945. After attending Husson College, she married John Fraser MacRae and they made their home in Bangor and Orono until moving to Pretty Marsh in 1970. They raised three children, Belinda, Thomas and Robin. Stella was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Church of our Father in Hulls Cove. She also attended the Tremont Congregational Church. She volunteered for many years at Mount Desert Island Hospital and the Northeast Harbor Library. She is survived by a son, Thomas MacRae and his wife, Carol, of Pretty Marsh; daughter, Robin and her husband, Bryan Caulfield, of Oldsmar, Fla.; grandchildren, Krystina, David and Sean Caulfield of Oldsmar, Fla.; son-in-law, Sam Arduini of Pretty Marsh; brothers, Robert Smallidge and his wife, Helen, of Pretty Marsh, Lester Smallidge and his wife, Inge, of Pretty Marsh and James Smallidge and his wife, Artie, of Bowdoinham; sisters-in-law, Anne Smallidge of Seal Harbor and Ida Smallidge of Southwest Harbor; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, John Smallidge; husband, John MacRae and daughter, Belinda Arduini. A graveside service will be held at a later time.
