JONESPORT – Esther Jane (Kelley) Seavey, 92, passed away Nov. 13, 2005, after a long stay at Marshall Healthcare Facility in Machias. She was born Oct. 6, 1913, in Jonesport, the daughter of the late Nelson L. and Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Murch) Kelley. During her early years she made knitted booties and sold them to a New York company to earn money. Esther worked most of her life at local sardine factories and clam shacks. She was a devoted and hard working person who was always busy. She loved to sew, knit, crochet and made patch-work quilts. She was a very caring person who loved her family dearly and had a special place in her heart for each of her grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Richard Kelley and companion, Reba Smith, of Whitneyville, Margaret Joyce and husband, Gene, of Alfred, Sherrald Peters and special daughter-in-law, Marion, of Jonesboro, Erma Seavey and fiance, George Buzzell, of Milford, N.H. and Clayton Seavey; “special daughter,” Ruby (Beal) MacLean, of Milbridge and her family of three boys, Pearly, Stephen, Timothy and their families; sister, Mildred Redimarker of York; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grand-children, and many nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by the caring staff at Marshall Healthcare Facility. She was predeceased by her husband, Charlie Seavey; an infant daughter, her sister, Beulah Stokes, of Tennessee; and two brothers, Warren of Greenville and Horace of Friendship. Friends are invited to visit with the family 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Sawyer Memorial Congregational Church in Jonesport with a funeral service following at 2 p.m. officiated by Pastor George Henderson. Burial will follow at Sewall Field Cemetery in Beals. Arrangements are under the care of Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Machias.
