PATTEN – Esther Ruth Lord, 73, died March 6, 2007, at her home. She was born Feb. 9, 1934, in Stacyville, the daughter of John G. and Dora A. (Giles) Hanson. Esther will always be remembered for her love of gardening, growing the best flowers and vegetable plants in the state, awesome chocolate chip cookies, her incredible work ethic and strong Christian convictions, and devotion to the Lord. She loved and served her family with great dedication and sacrifice. Esther dearly loved her children and grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of Patten Pentecostal Church. She worked at the Plywood Mill in Patten, before becoming a 28-year employee of Dead River Company. She retired to work full time in her greenhouse business. Esther graduated from Patten Academy in 1952 and married Rodney E. Lord, Nov. 3, 1953. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Rodney “Pat” Lord of Patten; Rebekah Woodman and her husband, Wallace, of Merrimack, N.H.; Rodney Lord Jr. and his wife, Stephanie, of Marietta, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Abigail, Patrick and Ethan Woodman, Nathan, Chelsea, Jonathan, Kristen, Heather, Hannah and Charity Lord; brothers, Reginald Hanson of Patten, Cecil Hanson of Dunstable, Mass., and Earl Hanson of Patten; sister, Clara Clark of Bangor. She was predeceased by her siblings, John Hanson and Inza Hanson, as infants, Anna Hanson, Lilla Bossie, Darrell Hanson, Etta McQuarrie, Hilda Skoglund-McQuarrie, Winona Birmingham and Catherine Neuhaus. Special thanks to her dedicated and loving care givers for the past six months, Lenore Hanson, Gayna McGraw, Ruth Richards and Fonda Anderson. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 9, at the Patten Pentecostal Church, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday with Pastors Regginald Adams and Sam DeWitt officiating.
