CARY, N.C. – Ethel Irene Amundsen Babash died March 9, 2007, in Cary, N.C., after a long illness. The daughter of Clifford Arthur Amundsen and Ethel Voorhees Amundsen, she was born Aug. 21, 1920, in Trenton, N.J. Ethel grew up in East Norwalk, Conn. Upon her marriage to William Babash June 8, 1940, she moved to Norwalk, Conn., where she spent most of her married life. She worked at the Norwalk Hospital for more than 20 years, as secretary to the administrator and then in the Utilization Office. Upon retirement in 1982, she and her husband moved to Rockland, where she volunteered at the Farnsworth Museum and enjoyed attending St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, Thomaston. In 1994, they moved to Apex, N.C., and later to Cary, N.C., where they lived for 10 years with their son, William and his wife, Susan. She took great pleasure in her family and friends, creating cross-stitch panels for them. She kept in close touch with friends, learning to use the internet, e-mail and instant messaging in her late 70s. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, William; two sons and daughters-in-law, William Clifford Babash and Susan of Cary, N.C., and Gregory Alan Babash and Ann of Huntington, Conn.; three grandsons and their wives, William Stuart Babash and Whitney of Reston, Va., David Matthew Spence and Mary Thomas of Maplewood, N.J., and Erik Michael Babash and Katie of Sherwood, Ore.; a great-granddaughter, Dita Babash; and great-grandson, Ivan, also of Sherwood, Ore. A committal service will be held in Norwalk, Conn., in the family plot at Riverside Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Inc.
