NORTH BROOKLIN – Ethelyn P. Christie, formerly of Standish was born July 29, 1908, in North Sedgwick, the daughter of Foster and Elizabeth Pert Pierce, died May 13, 2005, at her North Brooklin home. She grew up in Sedgwick, North Brooksville, and Hollis Center attending Gorham High School graduating salutatorian 1926 and graduating from Gorham Normal School (now USM). She taught school in Bar Mills and West Gorham until her marriage in 1932 to Lindon E. Christie who died in 1990. Mrs. Christie lived in Maine towns while her husband served as school administrator in Limerick, Winter Harbor, Monson, Ashland, Cornish, Camden, Hodgdon, and Standish, where she retired as a Portland reading teacher in 1972. She lived seven years in East Bridgewater, Mass., where she returned to teaching after raising four children. She was a member of the East Bridgewater Methodist Church. Mrs. Christie loved to read, laugh, do crossword puzzles, cook, knit caps, and mittens for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous friends. She loved to watch and feed the birds and her home was full of flowers. She held the Boston Post Cane for Brooklin since June 2004. She was predeceased by a sister, Louise Keene; and a daughter, Carol Ann. She is survived by her halfsister, Olive Whitehouse of Waterbury, Conn.; a niece, Linda Cole of Dayton; sons, Lindon Jr. of North Brooklin, Paul and Jesse Christie of Hallieford, Va., Robert and Susan Christie of Lamoine; plus eight grandchildren, David, Marc, Cheryl, Charles, Stephen, Emily, Caitlin, and Julia; and six great-grandchildren, Moriah, Sawyer, Robert, Lindon, Anna, and Caroline; and several nieces and nephews. Her personal energy and enthusiasm for life will be missed by all who knew her. Burial will be with her husband and daughter in the Meeting House Hill Cemetery, Hollis.
