HOULTON – Eugene A. Jewell, 87, died July 6, 2008, at a local hospital. He was born July 27, 1920, in Monticello, the son of Ernest L. and Fern M. (Faraher) Jewell. Eugene served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had just recently become a member of Saint Mary of the Visitation Church. Gene spent most of his life working hard in the woods industry and farming. He is survived by three sons, Eugene Jewell Jr. and his wife, Carol, Daniel Jewell and his wife, Debbie, and Ernest Jew-ell and his wife, Glenna, all of Houlton; four daughters, Barbara Suitter of Houlton, Pamela Clark and her husband, Tom, of Linneus, Beverly Shannon and her husband, Jack, of Westfield and Connie Westoff and her friend, Mel, of Jay; 24 grandchildren, 28 great-grand-children, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean (Conlogue) Jewell; four brothers, Lawrence, Herschell, Ernest Sr. and Michael; and two sisters, Glenna Belyea and Erla Stackhouse. Friends may call 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of departure to the church, at Dunn Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. at Saint Mary of the Visitation Church with the Rev. David Raymond, celebrant. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
