BAR HARBOR – Eva Louise Shelton, 78, passed away Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, peacefully surrounded by her family after a courageous two and a half year battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born Jan. 10, 1927, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Lena and Ben Stroder. She met her husband, Robert Shelton while he was stationed on a naval base in Fort Worth. They moved to Bar Harbor to make their home and raise a family. There was nothing more precious to Eve than her family. As a mother of three girls, she was always sewing dresses and doll clothes. She was very active with her girls in Brownies, Girl Scouts and Y-Teens. Eve loved her home on 9 School St., where she was a wonderful homemaker, cooking and sharing delicious foods with friends and neighbors. She had a passion for gardening and will always be remembered for her beautiful flower beds and window boxes. Eve was known for her strength, determination, frank wisdom, and compassion for others. Eve is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Bob; and three adoring daughters and their husbands, Sherry and Larry Vaughan, of Londonderry, N.H., Jan and John Hanscom, and Paula and Butch Lambert, all of Bar Harbor; seven wonderful grandchildren, Jake, Josh, Jessica, and Julianne Vaughan, Jim, Joy Lynn and Jay Hanscom; three adorable great-grandchildren, Hannah Olivia Hanscom, Cassidy Marie Hanscom, and Mathew James Yankowsky; three special young ladies, the mothers of her great-grandchildren, Jasmin Harsy, Ericka Jeffers, and Kim Yankowsky; a sister-in-law, Dola Stroder of Fort Worth; nieces, nephews, and many very dear friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Feb. 25, 2005, at St. Saviour’s Episcopal Church, 41 Mount Desert St., Bar Harbor. Please feel free to attend the service in thanksgiving for Eve’s life, and/or reception in the parish hall following the service. A spring interment is planned at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a contribution in Eve’s memory may do so to the St. Saviour’s Episcopal Church, stained glass fund or Hospice of Hancock County, 14 McKenzie Avenue, Ellsworth, 04605.
