LUBEC – James Henry Cox passed from this life, quietly and unexpectedly Feb. 10, 2005, at his Lubec home. James Henry, as he was known to those who loved him most, was himself as rare as the fact that he died in the same house where he was born more than 63 years ago. He was born Oct. 28, 1941, the youngest child of Ethel (Butler) Cox and Frank W. Cox Sr. Known as much for his work ethic as he was for his colorful speech, he spent his entire life under that one roof, enjoying the satisfaction of rigorous work, the pleasure of life at Globe Cove, and the company of friends and family. He was a true friend of children, and his generous heart will be missed by children of all ages. He worked in many capacities at various local canneries, retiring from his last job as a canman at the Lubec Packing Co. plant when it closed its doors in 2001. His approach to life was equal parts earnestness, happiness and simplicity, traits that endeared him to most all who came in contact with him. He was predeceased by his parents, his oldest brother Frank Cox Jr.; and two sisters, Ethel Quinn and Mary Simpson. He is survived by a brother, Ralph Cox of Meriden, Conn.; a sister, Margaret Quinn of Perry, and scores of adoring nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at the West Lubec United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to PAWS Humane Society, 84 South St., P.O. Box 182, Calais, ME 04619.
