BANGOR – Eva Madeline Smith, 96, wife of the late George W. Smith, passed away Sept. 30, 2006, at a Bangor hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born Jan. 2, 1910, in Bangor, the daughter of Harry D. and Lena S. (Lane) Phillips. Mrs. Smith graduated from Bangor High School and Beal College. She was a bookkeeper for the K.V. Creamery, co-owned G.W. Smith Grocery with her husband and later Rainbow Trailer Park, retiring in 1972. She attended Glad Tidings Church. Surviving family members include her daughter, Jeanette L. Sullivan of Lowell; three grandchildren, Lisa M. Weaver of Bangor, Gregory A. Hobson and his wife, Vicky, of Milford and Pamela L. Ireland and her husband, Paul, of Lowell; 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and five sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hobdon, Genevieve Gardiner, Jeanette Phillips, Helen Phillips and Marion Phillips. She was predeceased by one sister and six brothers. The family extends a heartfelt thanks to the caring medical staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Billy Washington officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor.
