NEWBURGH – Glendon M. Henderson, 62, husband of Bonnie (Tower) Henderson, passed away unexpectedly Sept. 29, 2006, while canoeing. Glen was born July 6, 1944, in Bangor, the son of Carlton and Mable Henderson. He was raised in Hermon and attended Hermon schools. Glen began his working career at a young age, living and working on Lincoln Patten’s vegetable farm in Hermon. He worked most of his life in the Bangor area, at Maine Cement plant, Veazie; Parker Danner Rental Co., Bangor; and beginning in December of 1987, at Eastern Maine Medical Center as grounds crew, then mechanical shop until his death. Glen had lived in Newburgh since 1967. Glen was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. His favorite was “flying.” He owned and built several airplanes and enjoyed flying into the great north woods to fish and hunt. He was a master Maine guide and enjoyed helping his son, Glenn with his guide’s service in Bradford. Glen was a member of the Maine Professional Guide Association, A.O.P.A. and the Seaplane Pilots Association. He is survived by his lifelong companion and wife of 38 years, Bonnie of Newburgh; his son, Glenn and his wife, Paula, of Bradford and their daughters, Chelsea and Jodi; daughter, Lori Ann and her husband, Larry Compagna, of Dresden and their son, Chad; two brothers, Lloyd of Bangor and Rodney and his wife, Pam, of Portland, Ore.; a half brother, Paul of Chelsea; and three sisters, Eleanor Smedberg of Bangor, Betty Porter and husband, Ralph, of Lakeville and Christina Thomas of Bangor. He will also be sadly missed by all his family, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and by his many special friends and co-workers. He was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Rosalie Henderson. Special thanks to the Maine Wardens Service, Hermon Fire and Rescue and the Penobscot Sheriff’s Department. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Dr. Rex Garrett, director of chaplaincy services at Eastern Maine Medical Center, officiating. Interment will be at Brookside Cemetery, Newburgh.
