MANSET – Eva M. Reed, 86, died Feb. 23, 2006, at a Mount Desert Island hospital. She was born Oct. 16, 1919, the daughter of Fred V. and Elfrieda (Brown) Thurston. Eva was a member of the Southwest Harbor Historical Society and the Mount Desert Island Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Reed of Manset; her brother, Leslie W. Thurston and family; sisters, Pauline McEachern and family and Louise Richardson and family; three grandchildren, Cindy Crowley of Corea, Alan and Scott Brown of Hancock; five great-grandchildren, Ricky and Jeffrey Crowley of Corea and Justin, Michelle and Amy Brown of Hancock. Eva is also survived by her extended family, Paula Dunbar of Southwest Harbor, Kathleen Thurnau of Mississippi, L. William Thurston of Southwest Harbor and Susan Douglas of Bar Harbor, along with Kirstie, Jack and Leo Kari of California, Lucas Dunbar of Southwest Harbor, Hollie Sawyer and son, Joshua, of Southwest Harbor, Gretchen, Beau and Jaqueline Niemann of Texas and William and Caleb Thurnau of Portland; and many other special nieces and nephews. Eva was predeceased by her husband, Ralph; and daughter, Margaret Reed Brown. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at Mount Height Cemetery, Southwest Harbor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southwest Harbor/Tremont Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 437, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679 or to a charity of their choice.
