BRADLEY – Evan “Uppercut” Roy Sr., 74, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, at an Orono nursing facility. He was born Oct. 15, 1929, in Kedgewick, New Brunswick, Canada, son of the late Alexander J. and Gertrude (Bishop) Roy. Evan attended Old Town area schools. Before his illness he enjoyed a brief boxing career where he was nicknamed “Uppercut” by Otis LaBree. He worked as a woodsman with his father and was later employed at Penobscot Chemical Fiber Company of Old Town until his disability and early retirement at the age of 36. Evan fought illness most of his life, but he always had a fighting spirit. He had a great sense of humor throughout his life and a great love for his family. He was also an avid Patriots fan. He is survived and will be sadly missed by his beloved and devoted wife of more than 50 years, Kathleen; five children; daughters, Rebecca Lavertu and her husband, Thomas, Roberta; sons, Evan Jr. and his wife, Lori, Bruce and his wife, Jeannette, Mark; five siblings, Rita, Rose, Yvonne, Nancy and Jimmy; seven grandchildren, Michelle Humphrey and her husband, Kenyon, Captain Jennifer Cyr of the U.S. Army, Kaleigh, Kevin, Evan III, Michael and Jessica Roy; great-granddaughter, Madison Kathleen Humphrey; step-granddaughter, Krystal Hanson; half-sisters, Leona Winslow and Anna Carr; half-brother, Robert Roy; many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by four brothers, Phillip, Arthur, Adrien, Lionel; two sisters, MaryAnne and Helen; granddaughter, Stephaine; and half-brother, Lawrence Roy. A memorial service will be announced in a later edition of the Bangor Daily News.
