FORT FAIRFIELD and CARIBOU – Evelyn M. Cote, wife of Leslie H. Cote, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, July 12, 2008, at a Caribou nursing facility, after an extended illness. She was born Oct. 25, 1921, in Skowhegan, the daughter of Fortuna and Aurelie (Beaulieu) Gervais. Evelyn was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1939, and was married to Leslie H. Cote, Feb. 22, 1941. Mrs. Cote greatly enjoyed photography, scrapbooking and flower gardening, and her family was her greatest joy. She will be lovingly remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cote was predeceased by one son, Clyde Cote; four brothers, Clyde, John, Omar and Thomas Gervais; and two sisters, Dorothy Wakeling and Phyllis Scott. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Leslie H. Cote of Caribou; two sons, Leslie D. Cote of Presque Isle and Paul C. Cote and his wife, Gail, of Fort Fairfield; one daughter, Rachel Taggett and her husband, George, of Waldorf, Md.; one brother, Leo Gervais and his wife, Ella, of Goetzville, Mich.; one sister, Bertha Millard of Fort Fairfield; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday, July 14, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a vigil service will be conducted 7:30 p.m. by the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, at St. Denis Catholic Church, 143 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Aaron Damboise, celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield, immediately after the funeral Mass. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held at VFW Paul-Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield, immediately after the interment.
