PRESQUE ISLE – Evelyn M. McGowan, 88, wife of John W. McGowan., who predeceased her in 1980, died Thursday Jan. 5, 2006, at a Presque Isle nursing home. She was born July 5, 1917, in Millinocket, the daughter of Ray and Lena (Perrow) Merritt. Evelyn worked as a cashier for 20 years at the Braden Theater and after that was employed at Maine National Bank and Aroostook Trust Co. as a teller. She was a communicant at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Presque Isle. She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Presque Isle, with the Rev. Raymond Morency, celebrant. A spring interment will take place at Ashland Cemetery. Those who wish may make donations in Evelyn’s memory to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Social Action Fund, P.O. Box 813, Presque Isle, ME 04769.
