ORONO – Everett Charles Burns Sr., 85, husband of the late Dorothy V. Burns, died Feb. 20, 2007, at Maine Medical Center, Portland. He was born Jan. 26, 1922, in Orono, the son of Edward T. and Hattie (Taylor) Burns. Mr. Burns was a 1940 graduate of Orono High School. He joined the U.S. Army Air Force in 1942 and graduated from pilot school as B-17 bomber pilot. Captain Burns was assigned to the 8th Air Force 487th bomb group. He flew 26 bombing missions over occupied Europe and Germany. Mr. Burns joined the Orono Postal Service in 1956 and retired in 1983. He was a member of the American Legion Post 84, Orono, the National American Association of Retired Federal Employees and the American Association of Retired Persons. Mr. Burns was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy in 1993; sons, Daniel John in 1961 and Everett C. Burns Jr. in 2004; four brothers, Herbert, Harold, Robert and Norman Burns; and one sister, Lillian. Surviving is a son, Stephen Burns and his wife, Jody, of Windham; five grandchildren, Matthew and Christopher, both of Florida, Joshua, Jennifer and Jordan, all of Windham; three great-grandsons, Ryan Burns, Daniel Burns and Dean Burns, all of Florida; a special niece, Roxann Stobie of West Palm Beach, Fla.; one brother, Lawrence Burns of Old Town; one sister, Arlene Ireland of Orono; daughter-in-law, Helen Burns of Florida; several other nieces and nephews. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at Brookings-Smith, LaBeau Chapel, 72 Main St., Orono, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev.
