SKOWHEGAN – Everette R. Hawkes, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, after several years of ill health. He was born July 3, 1936, in Troy, son of Adalaide (Gamble) Morse and Harry E. Hawkes. He attended school in Troy and other area towns. He had been a resident of Skowhegan for the past 26 years, previously living in Palmyra. He worked for Edward Shoe in Pittsfield, and Norrwock Shoe Factory in Skowhegan. Most of his life he was a mechanic, he ran his own service station in Skowhegan, and then owned and operated Everett’s Wrecker Service and Alternators. One of his proudest achievements was his successful wrecker business. Everett enjoyed visiting his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed his friend and companion, his dog, Dixie. He also looked forward to picking fiddleheads in the spring and strawberries in the summer, and sharing them with his family and friends. He loved living the simple life. Everett was an active member and attended faithfully the Trinity Evangelical Free Church of Skowhegan for the past several years. He became very close to the pastor and members of the congregation. He is survived by five children, a son, Steven Hawkes and wife, Darlene, of Newport; daughters, Cynthia Salisbury of Skowhegan, Bonny Folsom and husband, David, of Skowhegan, Amanda Shaw of North Anson, and Jessica Shaw of Skowhegan; seven grandchildren, Rachael, Josh, Jenny, David II, Kasey, Spencer and Connor; several nieces and a nephew; a friend, Ernie George; and a close friend and neighbor, Helen Parker. He was predeceased by his mother and father; and brother, Millard Hawkes Sr. of Clinton. Everett will be sadly and deeply missed by his family and friends. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan. Funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard Berry officiating. Interment will be in the spring at East Skowhegan Cemetery.
