HAMPDEN, Conn. and BLUE HILL – Fern Silliman McTighe died in Bangor Nov. 26, 2004. Fern graduated from Milton High School and attended Middlebury College. During the Depression she worked in a Boston airplane factory. She married Henry James ‘Mac’ McTighe Jr. in July 1941 in Las Vegas while he was on leave from Pearl Harbor. They moved to the Blue Hill peninsula after the war where she lived ever since, raising wolfhounds and goats, working at the Department Store and Madeline’s and for 26 years at the Blue Hill Library. Fern studied at the University of Maine, Orono, where she received the Halcyon Grange community service award, and helped start Bagaduce Music Library. Fern is survived by her children, Alannah McTighe of Niwot, Colo., Kevin McTighe of Castro Valley, Calif., and their children, Courtney and Kaitlin, and Esme McTighe of Edgecomb, and their children, Niall and Petra; grandson, Dylan McTighe and his wife, Stavana, of Niantic, Conn. She was predeceased by daughter, Moira in 1994. A celebration of Fern’s life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at First Congregational Church, Blue Hill, with the reception following at the Blue Hill Library. In lieu of flowers, donations welcome to the Blue Hill Library or the Ark Animal Shelter.
