CORINTH – Florence Gertrude Young Sodermark, wife of the late Halvard Sodermark, passed away July 28, 2004, at the age of 99. She was born Oct. 2, 1904, in Milo. A resident of Corinth since 1913, she was the holder of the Boston Post Cane awarded to the oldest citizen. Florence was the daughter of William Melvin Young and Florence Jennie Megquier Young. Florence enjoyed crocheting, tatting, quilting, knitting, and other handiwork as well as working side-by-side on the Tate Road farm with her husband for all 57 years of their marriage. Florence graduated from East Corinth Academy in 1922 and was the sole surviving member of that class for many years. She was employed in Corinth by Clyde and Madeline Peirce for many years until her retirement. At the time of her death she was a member of the Corinth Historical Society. Surviving are two children, James H. Sodermark and wife, Virginia, of Kenduskeag and Pauline Sodermark and husband, Linwood Greg Hildreth, of Corinth. Additionally she leaves four grandchildren, Valerie Knaut and husband, Frank, Sherry Swan and husband, Marc, Vicki Sodermark, Sandra Keith and husband, John; great-grandchildren, Jennifer and husband, Scott Hoenig, Jason Knaut, Miranda Moulton, Melissa Moulton, Jesse Keith and Megan Keith; great-great-grandchildren, James F. Sodermark and Brianna Esten; other surviving relatives, Alice Kinney, Elbie Nutter, Edna Hunt, Thomas Young, Patricia Brown, Annette Sawyer, and Ruth Sawyer. Special friends who were near and dear to her were, Phyllis Wilcox, Carol Ann Walker, Patricia LeBlanc, and Laura Leonard. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, with Pastor Cindy Nickerson officiating.
