BANGOR – Florence Dunbar Peetz Strong, 89, passed away Oct. 24, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Feb. 6, 1915, in Milbury, Mass., the daughter of Rev. Robert W. and Selina (Cook) Dunbar. She resided in Greenville, N.H., and Portland, graduated from Portland High School and Westbrook Junior College and worked as an executive secretary in Boston, California, Saudi Arabia and Morocco. She served as editor and publisher of the “Foothill News,” a weekly newspaper in Antelope Valley, Calif. Following her retirement, she traveled throughout the world and taught reading in Indonesia for two years as a volunteer. In 2002, she moved from Concord, Calif., to Bangor where she was a resident of Sunbury Village. She is survived by her step-daughter, Gertrude Peetz of San Pablo, Calif.; her stepson, Carl Wolfram Peetz of Pearblossom, Calif.; grandsons, Carl Peetz of Oakwood, Ga., Carl Vuosalo of Lancaster, Calif., Erik Vuosalo of Madison, Wis.; nieces, Catherine Larkin of Bangor, Jean Leach of Saco, Kimberley Shepard of Old Orchard Beach, Pamela Roberts of Brookline, Mass., Cynthia Davis of Overland Park, Kan., Susan Dunbar of Fla.; nephews, Bryce Roberts of Cape Elizabeth, Capt. Sandy Dunbar of Portland; three great-grandchildren and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her seven brothers and sisters, her husbands, Carl Peetz of Pearblossom, Calif., and Gerald Strong of Little Rock, Calif.
