SHALIMAR, Fla., and BANGOR – Florence T. “Pat” Hughes, 79, formerly of Bangor, died unexpectedly Aug. 13, 2005, at her home in Bob Hope Village, Shalimar, Fla. Pat was born Nov. 14, 1925, in Bangor, the daughter of Forrest and Florence Penney. Pat loved, lived and laughed through all of her travels. She was married to James A. Hughes for 32 years before his death in 1974. Jim was in the Air Force for over 20 years, and they traveled with their two children, Sue-Ellen and Jerry, to duty assignments throughout the world. Pat and Jim retired to Bangor, and Pat worked in the Bangor area as a property and gift shop manager after Jim’s death. In 1991, Pat moved to Bob Hope Village in Florida, where she participated in various leadership roles. Her talents were shared with the Gold Star Wives, Sergeants Association, village leadership, musical presentations, and the Red Hat Society, as well as many smiles in her role as Penney the Clown. She is survived by her sister, Judith Steeves, of Bangor, her daughter, Sue-Ellen MacInnes, of Eden, Utah, and her son, Jerry Hughes, and his wife Robbi, of Bangor. She has six grandsons, Stewart, James, and David MacInnes, and Jay, Brice, and Shawn Hughes, and one granddaughter, Caren MacInnes Dewey, and seven great-grandchildren and nieces, who loved her dearly. A memorial service to celebrate Pat’s life will be held 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14 at the First United Methodist Church, Essex Street, Bangor. Interment will be held 11 a.m. Sept. 14 at the Veteran’s Cemetery, Augusta.
