LIMERICK – Forrest “Ed” Howe III, 44, died July 28, 2008, from injuries he sustained in a vehicle accident in New Hampshire. Ed was born June 1, 1964, in Houlton, the first born to Forrest E. and Joanne (Barrow) Howe II. He was raised and educated in New Limerick, and graduated from Houlton High School, Class of 1983. After graduation Ed joined the U.S. Marine Corps and with his dedicated nature, fit right in. With a small town atmosphere and a back yard full of outdoor activities, Ed liked to go fishing and camping. A practical joker, he enjoyed sibling rivalry, yet if one needed help in any way, Ed was the one who would come first. He possessed a laid back attitude and was polite to his elders and respected their knowledge. Ed worked at Wasco Products for more than 20 years and was thrilled with his new position with C.E. Bouchey & Sons. He enjoyed his daily visits with the local dairy farmers. Ed was an active member of Limerick Fire Department for 16 plus years. He started out as a firefighter and with dedication and several courses later, held the rank of captain. He enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting and was a “dyed in the wool” NASCAR fan, following Dale Earnhardt Sr. Motorcycling with friends on a Saturday afternoon could take them to the mountains or down by the beach. Ed will be remembered as being an honorable man, one who loved being with his wife, his two kids and family members. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sandra Howe of Limerick; his children, Stephanie Alice, 7, and Ryan Michael, 4; his mother, Joanne Gillespie of Georgia; his father, Forrest Howe II of New Limerick; one brother, James Howe of Alaska; two sisters, Catherine Morris of Bangor and Judy Wheeler of Georgia; his paternal grandparents, Stanley and Arlene Howe of Houlton; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Perley and Evelyn Barrow. Family and friends are invited to call 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak St., Alfred. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Limerick Fire Station with the Rev. Jack Daniels officiating. His fellow firefighters will bring their captain and friend to Highland Cemetery Annex for committal prayers and burial immediately after the service. Memorial donations may be made to Limerick Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 195, Limerick, ME 04048. Autumn Green Funeral Home is respectfully handling arrangements.
