PLEASANT POINT, PERRY -, Frances C. Nicholas, our most precious mother, the eldest member of the Passamaquoddy Tribe, has left us to rest with our lord Dec. 12, 2005 and will be sadly missed. She was born Jan. 22, 1911, on Indian Island, Old Town, the daughter of Alexander and Mary (Francis) Sapiel. Frances was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church at Pleasant Point, she was also the proud mother of the former Lt. Gov. Carl Nicholas and former Council Member Calvin Nicholas for the Passamaquoddy Tribe. Her favorite hobby was playing Bingo with her family and friends. Frances was predeceased by her husband, Calvin A. Nicholas I, a World War II veteran of Pleasant Point; and her daughters, Dolores (Nicholas) Koffler, Marie U. Nicholas, Eva (Nicholas) Zanes and her husband, John; her grandson, Granton R.J. Nicholas; her great-grandchildren, Eric Nicholas, Kristen Nicholas, John Lapointe and Amber Ware. Frances is survived by her son, Calvin Nicholas ll and his wife, Patty; her son, Carl Nicholas and his wife, Faye; her daughters, Mary Blanch and Patricia (Nicholas) Sockabasin; her brother-in-law, Joseph (Cozy) Nicholas; her niece, M. Antoinette Nicholas-Moore, her special friend, Rebecca Francis; and her son-in-law, Lenny Koffler. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Noreen and Jeff Townsend, Calvin Nicholas lll, Fawn and Mike Pirrechello, Eva and Steve Chandler, Marie and Stan Harnois, Darryl and Gail Nicholas, Frances Nicholas, Alice and Bob Carter, David Nicholas, Alphonse Andosica, Carl Nicholas II, Dolores and Gordon Acheson, Alexander and Regina Nicholas, Leslie and Maria Nicholas, Lisa Nicholas, Margaret and Walter Sockabasin, Carla and Bill Gillespie and William and Lucy Nicholas. She is also survived by 64 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren who all loved her dearly. A special thank-you to her granddaughters, Alice and Frances; and her grandson, David; and her great-grandchildren, Dylan, Eva and John, for all the loving care and devotion that they have shown for our mother. Friends and family may call at France’s home Wednesday, Dec. 14 and Thursday Dec. 15. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Pleasant Point, interment in the Tribal Cemetery.
