MILFORD – Frances E. Thomas, 85, died peacefully June 1, 2004 after a short illness. She was born Aug. 1, 1918, in Milford, the daughter of Willard and Pearl (Johnston) McAllister. Frances attended Milford schools and graduated from Old Town High School, and the Bentley School of Commerce in Boston, MA. Frances was employed at the Penobscot Shoe Co. for many years and then several years at Diamond International. After her retirement she was employed part time at Dr. Laeger and Dr. Shapero’s office. She enjoyed her time spent in Florida, and the long drives with her family. Frances is survived by one daughter, Jan and her husband, Jack Holmes, of Ellsworth; brother, Willard McAllister and his wife, Norma, of Old Town; granddaughter, Katherine and her husband, Joseph Gifford, of Milford; grandson, Steven Baillargeon and his wife, Stephanie, of Old Town; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Molly, Lucus and Tyler; nephew, Peter McAllister and his family; special friend, Vernon Johnson; several nieces and nephews. Frances was predeceased by her first husband, Ferdinand Leavitt; and her second husband, Robert Thomas; one son, Shirley “Bub” Leavitt; sister and brother-in-law, Mamie and Howard Mayhew; niece, Jane McAllister. At Frances’s request private services for the family with no visiting hours will be held at Brookings-Smith Old Town Chapel, 205 Main St., Old Town.
