HOULTON – Frances Edna Savoy, 91, went home to be with her Lord, March 20, 2007, in Houlton, after an extensive health problem. She was born June 13, 1915, in Kildare, Prince Edward Island, to her loving parents, James Aeneas and Johanna (Hogan) Whalen. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church. Edna was a quiet, caring lady, who adored her family and friends. She had an avid interest in growing flowers and knitting and had a great love for animals, especially horses. She and her husband, Don, owned and operated Don’s Lunch Box, Houlton, for more than 25 years where many friendships were made and the food served became a legend. Edna leaves behind three sons and their wives, Paul and Bonnie, and Donnie and Gwen, all of Houlton, Tery and Karen of Yardley, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Troy and his wife, Charlene, of Bangor, Michael of Redding, Pa., Jennifer of Houlton, Kristen, Matt, Scott, Patrick and Megan, all of Yardley, Pa.; three great-granddaughters; two loving sisters, Hilda O’Brien of Prince Edward Island, and Agnes Bishop of Toronto, Canada; many nieces and nephews; and dear friend, Jennie Murphy of Houlton. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Don, in 1991; brothers, Basil, Terry, Bill, Peter, James, Gillis, Paul and Walter; sisters, Mary McCaw and Belle Clansfield; and lifelong friend, Maddy Nickerson. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Houlton, with Fr. Eddy Morin, celebrant. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate as a tribute to her love for animals to Houlton Humane Society, care of Bowers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 579, Houlton, ME 04730,.
