FRANCES H. DENACO

VEAZIE – Frances H. Denaco, 105, died peacefully at her home in Veazie Feb. 24, 2004, in the company of her close friend of many years, Jackie Dolley. She was born Oct. 15, 1898, in Calais, the daughter of Wallace Kimball and Nina (Townsend) Haycock. Frances graduated from Calais High School and was a 1916 graduate of St. Stephen’s Business College with a certificate in stenographic amanuensis and typewriter operation. She was employed by the Merrill Trust Co. for 15 years. Frances was married May 31, 1930, and raised her niece, Margaret. She was a long-time member of a local women’s club, served as a volunteer at Eastern Maine Medical Center, was an honorary member of the Veazie Garden Club for more than 50 years, troop leader for the Girl Scouts, and belonged to a women’s sewing group. After losing her husband in 1974, she spent the past 30 years traveling and enjoyed antiquing. Frances’s hobbies were crocheting, embroidery, reading, shopping, entertaining guests and she loved to cook. She also spent many years socializing at the Bangor Mall, meeting new friends during each frequent visit. She was recognized by the Veazie Town Council on Oct. 15, 1998, upon reaching her 100th birthday which was celebrated by a large group of friends in Orono. Frances was bestowed with the traditionally passed on honor of being the oldest resident of Veazie receiving the gold cane in the summer of 2003, presented originally by the Boston Post. Frances in survived by her nephew, Parker Denaco of Hooksett, N.H.; great-niece, Emily Ward of Seattle, Wash.; and special friends Maureen Guerin, Jackie Dolley, Bruce Fowle, Edith Lombardi, Dot Martin, and many other friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 43 years, Richard Denaco; her sister, Nellie Haycock Thomas; her niece, Margaret Ward; great-nephew, Nathan Ward, and her parents. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Adam Soderberg, pastor of the East Orrington Congregational Church, officiating. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of service. Spring interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
