BAR HARBOR – Nelson E. Hamilton, 94, passed away at the Epoch Senior Healthcare Facility in Weston, Mass., after a brief illness. Mr. Hamilton was the devoted and beloved husband for 67 years of Henrietta (Graten). He was the cherished father of Lynwood Hamilton and his wife, Barrie, of Needham, Mass., Judith Hamilton and her husband, Dennis Riegel, of Walpole, Mass., Duane and his wife, Judith, of Storrs, Conn., and the late Nelson E. Hamilton Jr. of East Hampton, Conn. He will also be greatly missed by his eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; as well as by his brother, David Enos of Dedham; his sister, Lucy Hamor of Waldorf, Md.; and his many nieces and nephews. Mr. Hamilton was predeceased by his sister, Evelyn (Richardson); his brother, William; his stepbrothers, Theodore and Ralph; and his stepsister, Dorothy. After working for the HD Scott/Greenway families for 25 years in Needham, Mass., Mr. Hamilton retired with his wife to their home in Town Hill. For the past 20 years he had been well known on Mount Desert Island because of the large vegetable garden the he enjoyed cultivating each spring and summer. Mr. Hamilton was a member of the Mount Desert Masonic Lodge and received his 50-year award in December 2002. Visiting hours will be 10:30-12 noon Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Jordan Funeral Chapel in Somesville, followed immediately by the funeral service. Donations in Mr. Hamilton’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Interment will be at Mt. View Cemetery, Town Hill.
