VEAZIE – Francis Billings Webster, 94, died Aug. 28, 2004, at a Bangor health care center. He was born on Sept. 17, 1909, the son of Herbert Smith Webster and Rosilla S. Farrington Webster, and lived on the same property for 93 years until his illness in October 2003. Francis graduated from Bangor High School in 1927, and the University of Maine at Orono with a Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1931. He worked at various jobs, including Sweet’s Drug Store and Dow Air Force Base during World War II until 1946, when he began employment in his field at St. Regis Paper Co. in Bucksport where he was known as “Veazie” and worked for 26 years until his retirement in Sept. 1972. He married Alice Margaret Estey on Sept. 15, 1943, and was happily married for 43 years until her death in 1986. His hobbies included gardening, splitting wood, HAM radio, repairing TVs, eating at Governors, bus trips, and saving a penny or two. He was proud of living on his own and drove a car until his 92nd birthday. He leaves two sons, Deane Webster and his wife, Linda, of Orrington and Daniel Webster and his wife, Paula, of Windham. He was proud of his four grandchildren, Meaghan and Michael Webster of Orrington, Christy Webster of Long Island City, N.Y. and Rebecca Webster of Windham. He also leaves nephews and their wives, Lanny and Lucille Folster of Lincoln, and Howard and Dot Folster of Enfield; his beloved sister, Eleanor Folster, of Lincoln, predeceased him on Aug. 2, 2004. He also had many wonderful HAM radio friends all over Eastern Maine. A special thank you to the residents and caring staff of Woodlands of Brewer who made the last months of his life pleasant and comfortable. Friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Monday, at Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Veazie.
