NORTH PORT, Fla. – Francis E. Wightman Jr., 72, died Nov. 19, 2003, at his home. He was born Oct. 24, 1931, in Carroll, N.H., the son of Alice (Malito) and Francis E. Wightman Sr. He attended Attleboro, Mass. schools, and served in the U.S. Coast Guard for six and a half years. He earned his federal aviation mechanic license at Emery Riddle Aviation School in Miami, while living in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was employed as an aircraft mechanic with many small airlines and repair stations including nine and a half years with Pan Am, 13 years with Eastern Airlines, and in 1994 he retired as assistant director of Quality Control from Millon Air, Miami, after two and a half years of service. He was a member of San Pedro Catholic Church, the American Legion, the Elks, the Moose, and the North Port Yacht Club. Francis was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed his hunting trips in Maine, gardening and woodworking. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Anna Mihlik of Florida; his son, Edward Wightman of Georgia; his sister, Miriam Perry and her husband, Edward, of Prospect. He was predeceased by his parents; his daughter, Jeannie Wightman; his sister, Marian Ashworth; his half brother, Herb Beer. A memorial service was held at San Pedro Catholic Church, Fla., on November 25, 2003. Local arrangements by Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
