KISSIMMEE Fla. – Franklin Earl Howland, 75, went to be with the Lord, Aug. 22, 2005. He was born March 4, 1930, in Bangor, the son of Franklin Idell and Geneva (Earl) Howland. He was educated in Bangor schools, graduating from Bangor High School in 1948. He received a B.A. degree from Gordon College, Boston, Mass., in 1953. While a student at Gordon, Earl met and married his wife, Jean (Thomson) on Aug. 23, 1952. In 1965, he graduated from the New England Institute of Anatomy and Sanitary Science, Boston. He owned and operated the Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel in Pittsfield and was a member of the National Funeral Directors Association. Earl was involved in Christian work all his life. He served as adult Sunday school teacher for many years at First Baptist Church of Pittsfield, where he was a member. After his retirement in 1993 to Kissimmee, Fla., he became a member of the Good Samaritan Community Church where he was a choir member and served as church treasurer. He is survived by his wife, Jean, and their three children and families; daughter, Elizabeth and her husband, Mark Chadbourne, of Old Town; son David, and his wife, Theresa, of Citrus Springs, Fla.; son, Daniel and his wife, Sharon, of Kennebunk; six cherished grandchildren, Amy and Rachel Chadbourne, Kirsten and Matthew Howland and Lindsay and Ian Howland. He was predeceased by his sister, Lillian; and is survived by one sister, Donna and her husband, Sanford Wilson, of Lynchburg, Va.; and one sister-in-law, Ruth and her husband, Angus Henderson, of Pickering, Ontario, Canada. Memorial service to be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Community Church, Kissimmee, Fla. Interment will be in Bangor. Grissom Funeral Home and Crematory, Kissimmee, Fla. in charge of all arrangements.
