WASHBURN – Franklin L. Stewart, 84, died July 24, 2006, at Presque Isle, after a brief illness. He was born May 18, 1922, at Hermon, the son of Frank and Sadie (Mallory) Stewart. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Franklin was a supervisor for civil service at the former Loring Air Force Base for many years until his retirement. He was a life member of the Lister Knowlton Post 9389 VFW. He was a loving and devoted husband and father to his family. Franklin married Edna (Doody) Stewart July 3, 1946. Surviving in addition to his wife of Washburn are four daughters, June Watson and her husband, Clifford, of Caribou, Donna Snowman and her husband, Kenneth, of Lumberton, N.C., Gaynol Padgett and her husband, Al, of Mississippi and Norma Johnson of Destin, Fla.; as well as 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two children, Raelene and Franklin. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday with evening military services to be held 7 p.m. by the officers and members of the Lister-Knowlton Post at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, July 27, from the chapel of the Mockler Funeral Home, with the Rev. George McLaughlin officiating. Interment will take place at the Riverside Extension Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Franklin may do so through the American Heart Association or to the charity of one’s choice. Envelopes may be obtained through the funeral home.
