WINDHAM – Franziska LeVasseur, 85, formerly of Fort Fairfield, passed away peacefully Dec. 21, 2007, at Brentwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Yarmouth, after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Paul LeVasseur. She was born and educated in Germany, moving to Maine with her husband after World War II. She was the daughter of Ernest Christian and Margaret Hoffman Gunther. Living in Fort Fairfield, she raised three children and worked as a nurse for many years at Community General Hospital. She enjoyed reading, knitting, and adopting neighborhood cats and dogs. After her husband’s death, she moved to Windham to live closer to her family. Franziska’s family includes Polly LeVasseur and her husband, Richard Couture, of Freeport, and Ingrid LeVasseur; and granddaughters, Katahli and Yelani of Windham, and Dorothy Pratt and husband, Fred, of Bangor. There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham. Interment will be at Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Augusta, old section. Donations may be made in her memory to the Animal Refuge League, P.O. Box 336, Westbrook, ME 04098.
