GRAND ISLAND, Fla., and LINCOLN – Jim Barton passed away Dec. 22, 2007, in Florida, after a long battle with heart disease. He was born March 4, 1931, to Oland and Louise (Knights) Barton. He grew up in Lincoln and was a graduate of Mattanawcook Academy and the University of Maine in Orono. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving on the USS Repose as a hospital corpsman. His son, Jamie, proudly placed a stone at the Korean War Memorial in Bangor. Jim worked for the state of Maine, retiring as regional director of rehabilitation for Aroostook County. Jim retired with his wife 20 years ago and they spent their time divided between their home in Sun Lake, Fla., and their camp on Cross Lake. Jim loved to fish and hunt, and spent many hours “guiding” his family on Square Lake, Long Lake and in the woods of Ashland. Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Audrey; and his children, James “Jamie” Barton III and his wife, Cathy, of Old Town, Lisa Ramsey and her husband, Skip, of Gorham and Lynn Jandreau and her husband, Terry, of Caribou; his grandchildren, Joey Cooper and his wife, Sara, of Lee, Libby Drinkwater and her husband, Dan, of Meford, Megan and Erin Jandreau of Caribou and Michelle Ramsey of Gorham; a great-granddaughter, Virginia Drinkwater of Lagrange; and several stepgrand-children. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Barton of Jenson Beach, Fla.; his sister, Nadia Leadbetter of Cambridge, Vt.; and many very special friends at Sun Lake. He was predeceased by his parents; and a son, David Barton. A memorial service will be held in January at Sun Lake Estates, Florida and a celebration of his life will be held in the spring in Lincoln, where he will be buried.
