WINDHAM – Fred W. Espeaignette, 87, of Roosevelt Trail, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, in New Gloucester, surrounded by his loving family. Fred was born July 3, 1917, in Auburn, the son of Flora Moores. He was raised in Mount Vernon where he attended and graduated from school. He then moved to Florida with his mother and pursued a mechanical engineering degree. Post graduation, he spent his time between Maine, Massachusetts, and Florida until his marriage to Edith Foss in 1942, when they settled in Windham. After retiring from Woodward and Austin in 1965, Mr. Espeaignette opened his own garage at his residence on Roosevelt Trail in Windham. After retiring from his own business, he enjoyed garage sales, auctions and flea markets. Fred loved to barter. He was an active member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a 50 year member of Cornerstone Lodge of Masons and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. He was also a life member of the American Motorcycle Association. He was predeceased by his wife, Edith Foss Espeaignette; his mother, Flora Moores; and his brother, Altonn Espeaignnette. Surviving him are his children, William Espeaignette and wife, Carol, of Yarmouth, Gary Pattern and his wife, Joann, of Norton, Mass., George Espeaignette and wife, Astrid “Lou”, of New Gloucester, Helen Steeves and husband, Ralph, of Presque Isle, Brenda Espeaignette and companion, Ken Burnham, of Naples, Gus Espeaignette and wife, Bette-Jean, of Naples, and Joe Espeaignette of Windham; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, Windham. Cornerstone Lodge will conduct Masonic services at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Interment in Mayberry Cemetery will be in the spring. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
