CARIBOU – Frederick B. Harmon, 76, well known area businessman and potato grower, died May 6, 2004 at his Caribou residence. He was born June 25, 1927, in Caribou, the son of Arthur and Sarah (Kelley) Harmon. Mr. Harmon began his career as a mechanic at Aroostook Motors and then Northern Sales. For many years he was a self-employed farmer and potato grower on the Back Presque Isle Road. For a number of years Fred also owned and operated Fred B. Harmon Co., a John Deere dealership in Presque Isle, then operated Fred Harmon Farm Trucking. He married Geraldine (Doak) Harmon, Oct. 9, 1944. Mr. Harmon was a member of the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, the I.O.O.F of Caribou, and was also an honorary member of the F.F.A. as well as the Caribou Fire and Ambulance Dept. He was a former member of Uni Sleds snowmobile club. Surviving in addition to his wife of more than 59 years, Geraldine of Caribou, are his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Loretta Harmon of Caribou; his daughter and son-in-law, Deena and Jim Belanger of Caribou; one brother and sister-in-law, Byron and Cecile Harmon of Caribou; three grandchildren, J.R. Belanger and his wife, Rani, Matt Harmon and his fianc_e, Sara Goldberg and Julie Belanger; one great-grandson, Jay Belanger; one nephew, Rev. Tom Harmon of Webster, Mass.; and three nieces, Kay Martin of Hermon, Denise Hacker of St. Antoine, Texas, and Judy Treat of E. Hartford, Conn. Mr. Harmon was predeceased by three brothers; and a nephew. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 10, 2004, from the chapel of the Mockler Funeral Home, with his nephew, Rev. Tom Harmon, officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
