VEAZIE – Freeland Jones, 82, died Jan. 13, 2006, at his home. He was born Nov. 5, 1923, in Bangor, the son of Austin W. Jones and Marjorie E. (Brooks) Jones. He was an army Veteran of World War II having served in the European Theatre. Freeland returned from his military duties and attended the University of Maine where he graduated. He was a former active member of the Veazie Congregational Church; a former member of the Penobscot Regional Planning Commission; a former trustee of the Veazie Sewer District; a former fire chief in Veazie, and was a Boy Scout Leader. He also was a member of McCobbs Company militia. Freeland enjoyed being a troop greeter during Desert Storm and the current Iraqi Freedom. He recently received a citation from the state legislature recognizing his support of our troops. Surviving are his wife, Vilora “Sally” A. Jones; five children, Karen L. Jones Walker, Richard Brooks Jones II, Timothy T. Jones, Steven W. Jones, Peter A. Jones; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
