CORINNA – Freeman George Webb, 96, died Nov. 1, 2007, at a Pittsfield hos-pital. He was born April 17, 1911, in Houlton, a son of Howard and Bertha (Davis) Webb. He graduated from Houlton High School in 1928, attended Ricker Classical Institute and graduated from the University of Maine at Orono, in 1933. While at the university, he was a member of Theta Chi, a Senior Skull and a record-holding member of the track team, for which he was inducted into University Sports Hall of Fame, in 2005. He served in the U.S. Army as a captain and was stationed in Korea during World War II. Freeman married Betty Clark Webb, Dec. 25, 1940, and they were partners in marriage and business for 56 years. He worked as a manager of Moosehead Woolen Mill. He and Betty then built and operated a small motel in St. Petersburg Beach, Fla. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and golf with his wife and friends. He was always delighted by the presence of children and will be remembered for great story-telling and game playing. Freeman was a member of Corinna United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, Kora Shrine and Corinna American Legion. He held the Boston Post Cane in the town of Corinna since 2004. Freeman was a recipient of both the “M” and Maine Black Bear Awards for his years of volunteer service to the University of Maine. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty Webb, in November 1996; and by two sisters and four brothers. He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Jacobs and her husband, Larry, of Corinna; three grandchildren and their spouses and children, Bonnie Simcock and hus-band, Jason, and son, Clark, of Manchester, Anna Chase and husband, Clifford, and children, Hazen and Molly Searway, of Readfield, and Joseph Satterfield and wife, Suzanne, and children, Grady and Carly, of Bowdoinham; several nieces and nephews, including Sean Conlogue of Houlton. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Ethel B. and Elwin Clark Memorial Fund for Corinna United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 418, Corinna, ME 04928. There will be no visiting hours. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at Corinna United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sharon Lovejoy officiating. Burial will be at Corinna Village Cemetery. Arrangements by Crosby & Neal Chapel, Corinna.
