BANGOR – Galen F. Veayo, 87, died Jan. 1, 2008, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. He was born Sept. 16, 1920, in Hamilton, Ontario, the son of Joseph and Nina (Hemings) Veayo. Galen was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944, after landing in France on D-Day. He was a devoted husband, father and a lover of deer and rabbit hunting. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nadia (Canty) Veayo; his daughter and her husband, Jayne and David Mann of Trenton; his sister, Oleavia Witzel of Fresno, Calif.; and a nephew, Galen W. Flagg and his wife, Nancy, of Brewer. He was predeceased by his sister, Sylvia Payne. Private graveside services for the family will be held at a later date at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
