LINNEUS – George E. Lilley, 88, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at Houlton, with his loving family at his side. He was born Sept. 17, 1915, in Orient the son of Aaron O. and Margaret (McClellan) Lilley. He was educated in schools in Orient, where he met and married his childhood sweetheart, Dola Dwyer on Nov. 29, 1938. They made their home in Orient for many years prior to moving to their new home in Linneus in 1953. He worked as supervisor for the state of Maine for 36 years. He then became self-employed as owner and operator of his own construction company. George served as first-selectman in Orient for several years and also served as selectman in Linneus. He attended the Linneus Free Will Baptist Church and will be remembered for remaining creative and active in his later years building trailers and caring for his gardens and lawns. Always a devoted family man, he is survived by his wife, Dola of Linneus; a daughter, Jan Additon of Turner; two grandsons, Christopher of Walpole, Mass. and Matthew of Old Orchard Beach; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Gordon in 1992; his son-in-law, Ken Additon in 2003; sisters, Dorothy White, Lillian Murray, Beatrice Lyon; and brothers, Lawrence and Dean. Friends may call 11 a.m. until 12 noon Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the Linneus Free Will Baptist Church, where a celebration of his life will be held at noon. Interment will be in the Linneus Cemetery.
